FAMILY
American culture idealizes and celebrates the rugged individual, and the mythical bootstraps that led to their success. In truth, most people, disabled or not, are far from loners. Most of us form families, whether through biology or choice or both. A primary value of Disability Culture is the honoring of interdependence, the farthest thing from the fantasy of the mythic Cowboy that haunts the American psyche.
These Family drawings pay tribute to some of the members of my own intimate community.
